US$4,000 Baby Videos

Would you spend US$4,000 on a professionally produced home video of your precious little one?

Well, some parents in New York are more than willing to do so as reported in this New York Times article. And there are some who are willing to fork out US$15,000 to create a documentary of their kid’s first year. And then there’s also the expensive strollers and designer diaper bags.

Of course it’ll be wonderful if you can afford to shower your child with all the pampering. But there are negative side effects as well, according to some psychologists. The child would feel that he/she might think too highly of him/herself because most video and photos will usually be just the prettier or nicer ones with the messy and unattractive ones reduced to the cutting floor.

Hmmm … must make sure that take a little more photos of Matthew in his unglamorous state when he’s crying and stuff so that he’ll not think too highly of himself. But then again, most of the photos we have displayed of him are all the smiley ones. And I doubt most, if not all, parents would want to show their children’s unglamorous side.
