Char from Weary Parent asked
“Do you reward or pay your kids for bringing home a good report card or test result?”in this post.
Well, this problem wouldn’t occur to me for quite a while as Matthew hasn’t even reach two yet. But I guess there’s no harm in me starting some advance planning.
Personally, I wouldn’t want to reward him financially each time he scores an A in tests and exams. It just doesn’t seem right to me. It seems to be teaching him to be studying hard for the sake of me paying him money when it should be because of the love of learning. It also teaches him to be materialistic, which I hope isn’t something he would pick up.
But I wouldn’t mind bringing him on a holiday or buying him something he wants at the end of the school year. And I would definitely praise him if he does well in school. Maybe bring him out for a meal at his favorite restaurant when he does well for his tests or projects.
What are your thoughts on this?
