A study done in an Australian primary school in New South Wales has shown that cutting down on food preservatives causes a significant behavioral change, for the better, in the students.

The school provided an additive-free breakfast to their students and changes in behavior of the students were apparent in three or four days. Even the difficult children in the school were found to be less disruptive. The school, together with the Food Intolerance Network, also provided parents with booklets with suggestions for lunch and dinner.

So, do look at what you feed your children. Even supposedly healthy food such as bread, butter and dried fruits are known to cause aggression, hyperactivity and depression in children as they do contain additives, preservatives and/or coloring.

It was scary to read that we consume an average of 2.4kg of additives per year. A book, What’s in this Stuff?, by Pat Thomas shows that more than 10,000 chemicals are added to our food these days.
